I took these pictures at Lighthouse beach. I used picasa to straighten and shapen images. Unfortunely, my computer crashed on Sunday after I post my pictures on fotothing. Prof. Nevins recommend to rotate the horizen but I have only copies now of my photos.

Week Two Assingment

These pic's were taken in New Haven on Chapel Street.

New Haven

These were taken during my lunch in New Haven, I had originally planned to take more but the weather was frigid. I enjoyed the challenge of finding interesting lines in buildings and close up objects but found it frustrating to get the shot from the right angle, as it's oftten in the middle of traffic.

Water Fall

Hello Everyone i converted this photo to b & w. This was taken at my town's reservoir.

Milford Beach

I think this is a beautiful picture... Where you can take a romantic walk on the beach with that someone special... That's my thought!

This was taken at Silver Sands Beach along with the picture below of Charles Island. This is another nice picture... Where you can walk out to the island but be sure to get back before the tide comes in... Or you will be stuck out there until the next low tide... Which is the following day.

Town of Milford

These two pictures were taken in Milford. The first picture is a reflection of Smith's Funeral Home across the street from the Princess Hair Salon. I thought it looked pretty cool in the window. The second picture is a waterfall near the green in Milford Center. I used picasa to edit this picture to black & white and then center the light area in the tunnel.

Week 2

These are the old railroad tracks down the street from my house. The kids use them as a shortcut to the ball field.

Week 2 Assignment

Hello Everyone,

I have been having so much fun taking and editing photographs as well as looking at everyone else's photographs. There really is a lot of creativity out there.

For this week's assignment, I chose 2 photographs that stood out to me. One is of a round window of a church. Although the church is beautiful, I thought the white window against the red brick stood out a lot and thought the photo would be more powerful if I came in close just on the window. I thought the design of the window was intriguing. I also liked how the tree branches were over the front of the window to add a certain contrast to the image.

The other photograph is of a fire escape on the side of an old, abandon building. I cropped the image and chose to convert it to black and white to give it more of a subtle feel to it. It reminds me of stories my father used to tell me of growing up in the "old neighborhood". When I look at this photograph, I can hear my Italian grandmother calling my father in for dinner; I can smell the spaghetti sauce cooking inside that window and I can imagine what it was like to live in an old Italian neighborhood in New York (only thing that's missing is the clothes line full of laundry coming off the fire escape).

Downtown New Haven

Hi all,
Well, as most greater New Haven residents know, the New Haven Coliseum was imploded last Saturday. Yesterday I went down to the site which was
one week later and took these photos. The black and white seem quite appropriate for the scene. It was a dreary morning without any sun. Today I passed the site and already landscape had changed. Men were working even though it was Sunday!
How many of you might have sat in section C row 18?

Homework Assignment 2

This picture was taken at the dock down behind Milford Library. I didn't use Picasa at all for this picture. The first thought that crossed in my mind with this picture was three generations which might not be the case, but the height difference between the three boys makes the picture seem this way. I also like the way the sun is hitting the ramp near the post.

Homework Assignment 2

This was taken at the Marina in downtown Milford. I didn't change the colors, but I did use Picasa to crop this picture. I thought this picture was cool because the reflection of the rocks underneath the water, also the ripple effect of the water.

Week Two Assignment

This is one of my favorite pictures. This is behind SBC in Milford on the Harbor Bridge. This is how I orginally took the picture. Below, I went into Picasa and chose to tint the picture and came out with the picture below.

Week Two Homework

I took this picture in the center of town in Milford, CT. I then went on to Picasa and used the black and white option for this picture. I think the black and white brings more the picture and I love the faint shadow effect against the plaque.

Editing In Picasa

Hi All,

In many of the comments I post about your work, here and on Fotothing, I refer to pumping the light... pumping the contrast... and occasionally a conversion to Black and White. Here I took Antonio's shells (I love the shot) and have done just that. If you click on the image on the blog, it opens into a larger window and you can see the image better. (This is true of each photo posted to the blog). Taking the picture with your camera is only the first step.. Now editing the light, value, hue and saturation is the next step to bring out the most in your picture... and make it as expressive as it can be.

Today at the Beach

Hi Everyone- More pics on fotothing (Alltaurus51). The first is a rock formatiom that was on the beach with a special someone playing hide n seek... the second picture I took of the wooden fence to get a pattern but when I brought it up on the laptop I noticed the patterns all over it! The grass blowing in the wind and the other fence in the background... very cool...

In the Town of Cheshire

Hi Everyone- I am enjoying your pictures! This is fun.. my first real camera! I actually am a fan of b&w but for some reason I did'nt want to convert any of my pics. Maybe I am still getting used to the digital effect. The first picture is of an old tree trunk that I pass while walking the dog on the property of a private school in my town. I thought that it was cool because I was able to get close to it and capture the sunlight (after most of the day was cloudy!). The second is of my family room reflected off of the TV... this is afer we retuned from a cold day of photo taking and the sun was finally pouring in!

Week 2 photos

Hello Everyone! For this weeks assignment i decided to visit a local boat yard here in Branford. I wanted to take some pictures using interesting shadows but the weather has not cooperated, its been nothing but cloudy weather here all week! I like both these pictures because of the different textures. The first picture i thought was neat because the steps go nowhere. Also i like the moss growing on the concrete. The second picture is of a rock wall looking down to the water at low tide. I like the mixture of ice, rock, water and weeds. Both pictures i think capture the feeling of winter.

What to Look For This Week-End

Hi All,

We are into the depths of winter now! As we head into the week-end you are probably planning your outing to go shooting. Remember to try to look for the small, special things on your walk... What combination of light and design can you find that you may not have noticed before. Resist the temptation to photograph the usual and the ordinary. A dull picture of a building in your town is NOT what I what to be looking at. A special turn of light, reflection, line or design is key here. I visit Watch Hill RI often as I sail out of Noank CT and that is a favorite destination of ours. This detail of porch and column I photographed is at the Ocean House. They recently tore the place down and I am so glad to have this... It is not a picture of the building, rather, I looked more carefully at the spaces of the building.. a distinction I would like you to focus on in your work this week.

The Urban Environment

I found this week's assignment rather difficult. I am ussed to shooting in a non-urban environment. It took me a while to adjust my viewing lens; but once I got going, I couldn't stop. I took a 2 mile walk around my town on Monday--it was cold and cloudy, but I had planned to go, so I did. It was strange to photograph on such a dark day; I was afraid my pictures would come out, "Blah!" But I was suprised at how much expression they have (of course Picasa helped alot). In addition to the pictures I post here, I have several others on my fotothing, www.fotothing.com/drivers please take a look and tell me what you think.

This is picture of the gazebo on my town green. I drove by this green often, but I never stop and got out of my car until I notice this building one grey day.
