Hello Everyone,
My name is Daniel Rivers. I am a senior at Albertus majoring in Mathematics and Education. In the fall semester last year, I took Mr. Nevins's Intro to Photography class; we worked in B&W film, and our final portfolios included only 12 pictures. I can see already that this class will include much more (I took 16 pictures alone for my self-portrait).
From my experience with the film based class I can say this...There is nothing like printing from negatives. I had Milford Photo develop two remaining rolls of film I had left over after the semester ended--they came out okay, but I would have printed them differently. Since it is so expensive to buy one's own developing equipment (not to mention having a dark room available), digital photography is great for those wanting to put the personal touch to their photos before having them printed by the local CVS. Also, the sheer quantity of electronic images is far cheaper than all the paper wasted in traditional printing.
Of the readings for this week, I agree that any art form, including photography, is more about communication of one's (or the photographed person's/thing's) perspective than it is about producing a thing of "art".
My Fotothing name is "drivers". Please post yours so we can add each other to our "Fotothing Friends". I look forward to looking at your interpretations.
Dan
