Last summer I went down to my local garden center in Wilton to shoot some macro pictures with my 3 mp coolpix. I first set it to macro mode (you need to read the manual) then moved in to less than an inch away. I held down the shutter button for a moment to give the lens time to focus...then gently continued squeezing the shutter until the image was taken. From about 20 minutes of shooting, I came away with maybe 40 of these... This was edited just in Picasa and put on the blog from Picasa too using the "Blog This" button. Notice that the frame is filled and that I pumped the light and color using the editing sliders.
You might still have some Valentine's flowers around.... what about a trip to Stop and Shop's florist department?
